North British 10800 Diesel-Electric Bo-Bo

This 800hp Bo-Bo diesel-electric was ordered by the LMS from North British, but ended up being delivered to the then newly formed British Railways. Numbered 10800, it worked in various locations around the country on test. It once had the nickname of the 'Wonder Locomotive', as in 'I wonder if it will start today!'. It was not a success and one wonders why British Railways ordered ten more mechanically similar Class 16's!

This model is one of Dave Alexander's excellent kits. It consists of some very nice, clean sharp white metal castings that form the main body shell and is enhanced by various cast and etched brass fittings.

It runs on two Tenshodo motor bogies that fit neatly under the body. The weight of the model is sufficiently heavy to pull a prototypical load.

I have added a few other bits, like a DCC decoder, a simple Hornby R8249 in this case. This enabled me to also fit a working cab light, and therefore cab interior detail.

Buffers are sprung Gibson's and works plates are from Shawplan.

Heljan announced their intention to produce an RTR version of this locomotive in February 2022.
