GWR/BR
15101-15107 0-6-0DE Pleased with their first large shunter No.2 (later BR 15100), the GWR ordered a further batch of seven shunters in 1945. The contract was awarded to the GWR's own Swindon Works and were of the now 'standard' 0-6-0 design. The forst six were fitted with the English Electric 6K engine and electrical equipment, while the seventh, was fitted with Brush/Petter equipment. When delivered from March 1948, the shunters were painted green with red buffer beams. Not sure what shade of green here, but I rather think it was GWR Locomotive Green and not BR Locomotive Green which appeared much later. In typical Swindon fashion, the numbers were large cast brass plates fixed on the cab sides. They also sported 'British Railways' in Egyptian Slab Serif on the equipment doors. My take on this class was to use a standard Bachmann Class 08. A few little modifications were necessary. These include the removal of the electric lights and lamp brackets. GWR/Western Region style lamp brackets have been fitted in place of the originals and a horn replaces the whistle. The body has been repainted with Railmatch Post 1928 Great Western Locomotive Green, number 601. The 'British Railways' logo I actually found in the Fox Transfers catalogue as sheet number FRH 4000/15 Tender/Tankside GW style lettering. The cast brass number plate is a custom etch by Narrow Planet, ever helpful in these things. A DCC decoder has been fitted as well as Alex Jackson type couplings. Probably not 100% accurate, but not far off and looks the part. |
