AC Cars Railbus AC Cars was amongst the bidders to produce lightweight four wheel diesel railbuses. They built five units numbered W79975-9 and initially allocated to the Western Region. These 36ft long vehicles were powered by the 150hp AEC unit with a standard transmission. After the branch lines they were working closed, they were transferred to the Scottish Region and gained the SC prefix.
Heljan released a model of these units in various liveries following their established railbus pattern. The model splits around the waist to gain access to the interior and fit a DCC chip. It has working lights that change with direction of travel Obviously there is not a rear red light as these vehicles carried an oil lamp on the rear. The model is very heavy and runs extremely smoothly. Detailing is excellent, but the large windows beg some better interior detail and painted seats. My version is W79975 in the early gloss light dmu green and has yet to be fitted with a chip. Anbrico also made a cast white metal kit many years ago. |
