General Motors B181 Class

The twelve B181 Class were delivered in late 1966 and are virtually identical to the B141 Class. The only outside difference is a group of small louvres on the cab front for ventilation, although a lot of locomotives have since had these plated up. The main internal difference is the engine. These GM JL18 types use the larger 8-645E V8 two stroke diesel engine producing 1,100bhp.

The Model Irish Railways B141 kit can be used to produce this type of locomotive. The obvious omission being the small grilles on the cab front.

Murphy's Models

Murphy's Models have also produced the B181 Class in numerous liveries. The model does correctly feature the small grilles on the cab front. Basically similar to their B141 Class model, it to is an excellent model. My version, B181, is in the original black and tan livery as delivered.
