Class 142 Pacer, BREL/Leyland

The Class 142 Pacer unit is a development of the earlier and unreliable Class 141. Built by BREL at Derby in 1985, a total of ninety-six units were constructed. A refurbishment in the 1990's saw the fitting of a new engine and transmission, new seats and replacement of the folding doors.

Hornby have modelled the Class 142 in it's earlier form, although various etches are available to upgrade the doors to the current pattern. This is an old model and is not of Hornby's current standard. The drive is not particularly smooth or reliable and various companies such as High Level Kits and Branchlines offer a chassis upgrade.

My model is in the original form and I might upgrade it in the future.

In November 2016, Realtrack Models announced that they are producing a RTR model to modern standards in various liveries.
