Class 411 3 CEP, 4 CEP, 4 BEP and 4 TEP Built between 1956-1963, this class ended up being the longest lived of the BR Mk.I EMU's at 49 years. 18 unit were converted to 3 CEP (Class 411/9) in 1999 with the removal of the second class open trailer. Three versions of the 4 BEP type exist. The Class 410, 411 and 412. Here we deal with the Class 411 4 CEP (4 car Corridor Electro Pneumatic brake). Between 1983 and 1986 a number of 4 BIG units needed refurbishment. As a temporary measure, four 4 TEP (4 Car Temporary Electro Pneumatic) were created using three cars from a refurbished CEP and an un-refurbished buffet from a BEP. Bachmann have produced an excellent model of this class in a variety of liveries. My version is set number 7126 in green with a small yellow warning panel.
The model is very well detailed and even features the curtains in the windows. As supplied the Route Code is 4, which is the fast Victoria-Brighton service. An alternative of 18, Ore-Brighton, is supplied as a separate corridor insert. Performance is very smooth and controllable. Another excellent unit from Bachmann. Brittania Pacific Models also make a RTR model of this class in various liveries. A1 Kits produced etched brass sides and ends to convert the Mainline/Replica Mk.I coaches to 3 CEP units. DC Kits and MTK once produced a kit. Refurbished unit kits have been offered by A1 Models, Brittania Pacific Models, MTK, MJT whilst Marc Models have produced a RTR version as well as a kit. Southern Pride Models offered a kit of the refurbished 4 BEP. |
