Class 483 Isle of Wight 1938 Stock With the Class 485 and 486 stock becoming life expired, thoughts turned to replacement stock. What was chosen was more London Transport stock in the form of the 1938 Tube Stock. The best carriages were chosen, which were already nearly 50 years old at the time, and refurbished at Eastleigh. They were introduced to the Island in 1989 as 2 Car sets in Network Southeast livery.
Silver Fox Models produce RTR models in both original NSE and Dinosaur livery. The conversion uses a Bachmann 'Underground Ernie' unit and produces a smooth running unit and is DCC Ready. Silver Fox have done a good job with the EFE unit and I would recommend it. I have the NSE liveried version of this class as unit 483 005. I've yet to fit a decoder as I will add some working lights as I did with my EFE 1959 Stock. EFE produced both LT 1938 Stock and special Isle of Wight Class 483 models. They were available in either Network Southeast livery or the 'Dinosaur' livery. They are unpowered static models, although a number of motorising options are available from Branchlines or Metromodels.
