British Rail Class 90 Bo-Bo

The Class 90 locomotive was quite a departure in looks from previous ac locomotives with its raked front. Despite this, it was closely based on the Class 87 and was initially referred to as Class 87/2 prior to production. As a result of the different looks and some technical differences, the were reclassified as Class 90. They were ordered to replace the ageing fleet of Class 81-Class 85 locomotives.

Hornby has produced a model of this class in various guises over the years. Bachmann announced in July 2014 that they will produce a model to modern standards.

I have the old Hornby version and have not really touched it. The pantograph is the obvious downfall, but Hurst Models do the correct type Brecknall-Willis version.
