Grimsby and Immingham Electric Railway

The Grimsby and Immingham Electric Railway was opened in 1912 by the Great Central Railway to link Grimsby town with their new dock complex a few miles away at Immingham. Although called a railway, it was probably more a tramway as it ran through a few streets in Grimsby before completing the line on reserved track. However, the line passed to the LNER and then British Railways. Under BR ownership, the cars were painted Multiple Unit Green and carried the 'Cycling Lion'. Three types of cars were used and I have chosen to model one of the 'Long Cars', which at 43ft. 8in. were by far the longest tramcars to operate in Britain.

I happened to come across a 3D printed body for a long car produced by Grime Street Industries, although I believe they are no longer available. The photograph shows the printed body sprayed in grey primer to reveal what needs doing. The print is very good and requires minimal tidying up. A detail fret of solebars, life guards etc. is available from Mark Hughes, who specialises in bus and tram parts. The trolley poles are from the East Lancashire Model Tramway Supplies. I just need to work out how to motorise the car with its very small (by railway standards) 4ft. 6in wheelbase.
