Class 350 Desiro

The Class 350 Desiro class of multiple unit was built by Siemens AG in three batches between 2004 and 2014. They are four car units. The first thirty of these, Class 350/1, were ordered by Central Trains for use in the Midlands. With franchise changes, they have subsequently been transferred to London Midland.

Bachmann make a RTR model of this class as either a Class 350/1 or 350/2. My version is a Class 350/1 numbered 350 101 finished in London Midland livery.

This is yet another excellently produced multiple unit from Bachmann. It does feel quite delicate, but features some nice little touches. There are fully working lights on the cab ends and a nice touch is the way the dot matrix destination display lights up orange. Coupling the cars together is fiddly, with the coupling bars being electrically conductive. This allows one DCC decoder to be fitted in the Motor Car to control all the lights as well as the motor.

The unit runs really well and is nicely controllable. My only criticism would be the pantograph, but producing a more accurate one would end up with something so delicate that it would break very quickly.
